As all working court reporters can attest to, undertaking the challenge of becoming a professional court reporter can be a difficult one at times, but it is important to remember that in the end your hard work and determination will lead to a very rewarding and profitable career.   To be successful in school and at your job, you need the proper tools that will help set you apart from other people.  One very simple and painless way to enhance your professional skills and be exceptional in your chosen career path is to join your state court reporting association.
The Minnesota Association of Verbatim Reporters & Captioners (MAVRC) is the largest nonprofit court reporting association in Minnesota, and we are here to assist you in realizing your career goals by providing valuable networking opportunities with working reporters and by offering education on new technology and techniques to strengthen the high professional and ethical standards that will be expected of you by your future clients and the public.  Being a member of MAVRC will also allow you to share ideas and exchange solutions, make friends and build relationships with other reporters, obtain information on employment opportunities, get answers to technical questions, and be kept abreast of the latest trends in our industry.

Your involvement in MAVRC will further demonstrate your commitment to your chosen profession.  Plus, your membership will put you on a winning path by bolstering the leadership skills that are indispensable in both your personal and professional endeavors.  Take advantage of all that MAVRC has to offer and go out and make a difference!

Lastly, I would like to leave you with the words of this poem by an unknown author.  “Be Thankful.”  “Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire, because if you did, what would there be to look forward to?  Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.  Be thankful for the difficult times because during those times you grow.  Be thankful for your limitations because they give you opportunities for improvement.  Be thankful for each new challenge because it will build your strength and character.  Be thankful for your mistakes because they will teach you valuable lessons.  Be thankful when you are tired and weary because that means you have made a difference.”

I wish you success in all your endeavors, and I look forward to seeing you at future MAVRC events!
